Some are sweet, some are quirky, some are scary...and all are gems.Here...why not sample one to see the wonders this collection has in store:THE ALIEN DELICACIESThough the aliens had cleaned pollutants and poisons from the earth and cleared the garbage from it, they still thought that it was earthlings who had been the generous ones.

In fact, their devices that cleaned the planet and allowed everything to run on solar and wind energy were all gifts of gratitude. And all of this was due to a shy, easy-going alien named Fred.Fred was the advance wave of an alien race that sought to take over the earth and vaporize humanity. He landed his ship, stored it in a parking lot in a different dimension, changed into a human skin, and set about noting the various weaknesses in each of the worlds military organizations.

Within 24 hours, he had concluded that the human race could fall under the wave of the alien psychic death ray that would cause the heads of every human being to explode in thirty seconds. As he was taking out his smartphone to send the message, however, an intoxicating perfume filled the nostrils of Freds human form. As he inhaled, it was as if the smell was that of the finest mana served with a side order of the sweetest nectar. He followed this scent, homing in on it with ever increasing joy.At last, he wandered into the Hunan Gardens chinese restaurant, and for Fred, the instant that he discovered there was a taste to go with the aroma that had seduced him was the standard by which we judge all other moments of ecstasy.

With the dreamy motions of a teenager touching the object of his affections face for the first time, he scooped up handfuls of soy sauce, duck sauce, and hot mustard packets. He then asked how much they cost, and when the bewildered proprietor said I dont know...five dollars, he laid down the money, and felt as if he had bought a million dollar bottle of wine.Today, aliens live in peace with earthlings, laughing and sharing stories over breakfast as the earthlings drink coffee and the aliens drink various brands of soy sauce.

They cheer side by side at sports events, during which the aliens drink hot mustard while the earthlings drink their beer. And while earthlings drink their fine wines over luxury dinners, their alien counterparts swirl various vintages of duck sauce in specially made glasses, savoring the bouquet and tasting the glory of a fine drink with a fine meal on a clean and peaceful earth. And there are nine more just like that one, where things are just a little skewed, just a little off center.Theres the woman who has a most intimate--and disturbing--relationship with bees.Theres Jandek, a cult figure in modern music, and the unknown facet of his work that has been the best-kept secret in all the performing arts...until now. And, of course, read the title story, about the rodent community calling upon their engineering expertise to help one of their own.The cover art is once again by Julian Parker Burns, and you can see much more of his work at julianparkerburns.com.
