A Few Loose Screws is a collection of newspaper columns (many humorous) written by the author over a 20-some period along with some verse and other writings, some published in other venues and some unpublished. Illustrated by Holloways son, Frank M. Holloway Jr, A Few Loose Screws is a 361-page collection of her stories published in the Herald-Citizen between 1983 and 2005, along with some new material. Most of the book contains playful, fun pieces. One story recalls Holloways childhood adventure of trading secret messages with whom she believes is a fairy queen but later turns out to tbe the imaginative trick of a friend.

Another story makes the task of killing a cockroach into an epic battle of survival. Others tell tales of Holloways dogs, Moody, Harvey and Sunny. Megan Trotter, Herald-Citizen Staff, October 8,2009.Sarah Holloway has rightly been called the Erma Bombeck of Cookeville.

For over 20 years she has written frequent columns for the Herald-Citizen newspaper. Knowing that each column would either be funny, touching, or thought-provoking, I looked forward to each one. Now that shes collected them into a book, I skimmed through my copy and immediately bought several others for friends as birthday or Christmas gifts.

These essays are mostly funny comments on her life or life in general. Some titles are Knocked in the Head (my favorite), Letting Go of Old Junk, and Computer Gripes. There is a section about creatures -- dogs, donkeys and roaches, a few of Sarahs poems (good) and lastly Serious Matters that includes pieces titled Is It Time to Go Home? and The Gift That Cant Be Wrapped. The book would make an excellent gift for most any adult. I give it four stars Ann from Cookeville, TN
